The sound of shite

Is it just me or is everyone else -over- Missy Higgins? I’m sure she’s a nice girl and her music is pretty but she’s absolutely everywhere!

I liked her first song best, that triangley circle one (you know the one) but I don’t really take much notice of her now
The Australian music media has a history of over-hyping earnestly dull singer/songwriter types - think Alex Lloyd and his partner in bland Pete Murray.
Missy might be a step up the talent ladder from them but I still reckon her music could become pretty boring pretty quickly…if the new album is simply a repeat of the first then all we’ll hear is the sound of people turning off…
I can’t say I’ve noticed her everywhere but maybe I’m just listening to the right stations. I find her a bit pedestrian.
I have never been into her music from the start. She it totally overrated.
I liked Scar and The Special Two, but then they played them to death on the radio as they do. There are so many great bands from overseas that deserve air time here, but they’d rather play something by an Aussie or a big-name star so many times that we get sick of it rather than try new music.
All’s I can say is thank goodness my sister lends me her iPod.
Lady Chaos………tsk, tsk, tsk………You would support overseas artists before you would ours………??????? The talent we have here is awesome. I am flabbergasted at what youve posted. Missy Higgins is a consummate artist. We have the likes of Killing heidi, Sara Blasko, jack johnson, john butler trio….etc, etc, etc. And you support…possibly Britney?
Chaos, i think we are mates, in fact i am sure we are, but REALLY! Supporting overseas instead of talented home grown Aussie artists…
And anuffer fing, me and Lady Diana saw Missy as support act to the Finn Bros last year, absaflaminlotely brilliant live to air.

She’s another American girl with a squeaky voice. Consummate means ’showing a high degree of skill and flair; complete or perfect’.
Nope sorry, I don’t share your opinion ‘winnierose’. (Crucifixions and persecutions to the left please!)
I know she’s just another product of the ’soft girls singing sad songs’ conveyor belt but I’m still into Missy (as I am Dido, but not Delta). Her voice is different to most, giving her a slight edge when it comes to distinguishing her music from the rest. Yeah, Go Missy !
hannasgrandpa- you rock dude.
awesome.

*Runs home and cries* No, not at all, I’m not saying play overseas artists instead of Aussies… I’m just sick of repetition on the radio. They play only “popular” artists from overseas (e.g. Britney), but they’ll give any Aussie group a go - and yes, that’s a good thing, but I think that instead of overdoing it and making us sick of home grown talent and Britneys they should give little-known (but still awesome) overseas artists a fair chance. There is so, so much great musical talent in the world, and it would be much better to get more of that variety happening on our radios than hearing the SAME songs (Aussie or not) over and over again. Maybe then no one would be sick of Missy Higgins…
far from being off the conveyor belt , missy higins is one of the rare REAL singer songwriters…
I heardsome of her songs back before she did her first album, and they were then in basic form even truly stunning.
mmmmm you need to turn your “wireless” up meinrosebud, cos, missy has the best Aussie accent to rival slim dusty.
And lady Chaos, I hear what youre saying, but I thought you of all people would have been mesmerised by her words. And my answer to the original question- No, I’m not sick of Missy higgins - Bring on her new album.
Yep, quality is the thing. If the stations are playing tooooo much missy, turn rafio off, or change station. Stations play things on a cycle.
You could probably predict when missy will be played

I do like Missy Higgins’ lyrics… they are poetic, and no question that it’s cool she sounds different to the typical female singer, it’s just when you listen to the radio two hours a day five days a week as I did in the pre-ipod days (bus ride to and from uni), even with station hopping, you can’t really avoid songs they play over and over again, and they do wear a bit thin. There are so many other good bands and artists out there that Aussies don’t get a chance to hear - I figure reduce the number of times they play a song to max of twice in one day and give other, different songs a go (not just replace them with more Pussycat Dolls), then no one gets sick of anything and we all get a chance to hear the best music from home and around the world. If someone wants to hear the same song many times, that’s fair enough, but perhaps they should buy the CD or download the song.
Still, that’s just my point of view… Maybe if they played nothing but Children of Bodom and Swollen Members on the radio I wouldn’t be complaining…
Missy has heaps of scars and for those of us who have, this tune still lingers. She will go out of flavour - but if she improves her other music, she will bounce back in style, with more feeling and flair.
Yes there is plenty of Australian talent out there - but you are unlikely to hear it on MMM or FOXSTEREO. Anyone listening to RRR? Independent radio for independent thinkers. Not sure they individual programs play Missy, but Lisa Miller, New Buffalo and Cindi Boste are well worth a listen and you’ll hear them on RRR.
Today, I got a call from Triple R because my quarterly Trip magazine, part of my subscription, had been returned-to-sender. I had moved and changed phone number yet the station called me at my old number, listened to the voicemail message, took down my work number and tracked me down there to ask my new details.
Now that’s customer service!
Like so many other so-called singers (think Delta, Kylie, Danii et al) Missy’s voice is simply p*ssy. Take away the mike which she almost has to swallow to be heard and you’d ha ve a voice as weak as gnat’s pee. Let us honour real singers with real voices that can be projected without a mike beyond the first row of the stalls.
